Toot Sweet is set up by writers, for writers. We open doors to interesting corporate work with support, mentoring and a fun team environment.
Toot Sweet specialises in making complex information clear, concise and compelling. We predominantly work on bids for essential infrastructure, such as public transport, hospitals, water and renewable energy. Stuff the world needs.
We provide flexible, interesting, well-paid work that is project-to-project. It's ideal for complementing an arts career, travel or finally finishing that novel!
We look for writers who are the right fit for the work we do - so they enjoy it and thrive.

What We Do
For nearly twenty years, we have helped clients win work worth billions of dollars. Clients keep coming back to us because they find us warm, reliable, honest and easy to work with. Our clients are mainly in Australia: Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. We also have international clients. Work is a mixture of on-site and remote. Clients are increasingly comfortable with remote work (thanks Covid, for something!)
We have a strong sustainability policy - we are selective about the projects we work on and believe that businesses should give back. Each year we make donations to NGOs and charities. We are proud to support the Australian Conservation Foundation and B1G1.

The key to being a great technical writer in a deadline-driven industry is to be easy-going, solutions-oriented, well-organised, and to have great people skills.
Experience And Qualifications
You don't need specific writing qualifications. We do look for writing experience and the ability to follow instructions and interpret a brief.
Microsoft Word Skills
You need to be a highly proficient user of Microsoft Word, able to work with styles and templates. It’s essential that you can format Word documents.
Typing
Typing speed is important and something we test for. You really have to be able to touch type!
Organisation Skills
You also need to be adept at time management, meeting deadlines and working in high-pressure environments. You need to be able to assess your workload, prioritise, manage the client’s expectations, and work at delivering them the best value you can. This means being calm, disciplined, professional, and able to work well alone or in a team.
What You'll Need
An ABN or ACN (or equivalent if you live outside of Australia).
Your own equipment, including a laptop and mobile phone.
Flexibility to accommodate Toot Sweet work, sometimes at short notice.
A sharp corporate wardrobe.
What You Offer Toot Sweet
The strength of Toot Sweet is its reputation, so we choose our writers carefully. As a team, we present a strong and consistent image of high quality, creativity, precision, and dependability.
Reliability
Bids can involve high-pressure, long hours, and demanding environments. They’re worth a lot of money to our clients. Accordingly, we need professional, cool-headed writers who can give their full focus when working on our projects.
When you’re on a Toot Sweet project, your availability needs to be flexible. Hours are usually full-time, and during busy periods can extend into evenings and weekends. Sometimes projects extend beyond the initial deadline. It's best to drop everything to focus on the tender until it’s done, dusted, and in the submission box. If you have an inflexible workload or weekly commitments that can’t be shifted, Toot Sweet probably isn’t going to work for you.
We go through busy periods. Other times, it can be quiet. We do our best to fill writers' workloads, according to their individual preference. Ideally, Toot Sweet work isn’t your only source of income.
Presentation
A must for Toot Sweet writers is immaculate presentation. We’re seen as experts in our field and we communicate this in a variety of ways. One key way is in the way we dress and conduct ourselves on site.
So if you don’t have a corporate wardrobe that makes you look like an expert, and feel 10 feet tall, you’ll need to get one.
